All you will see the is regular windows terminal.

In order to be able to view the Lotus Domino server console the new command now is

mstsc /admin

Wow thank you Microsoft that was a really badly needed change/fix.....Yeah rite!!!

I upgraded the IBM Traveler from version 8.0.1 to 8.0.1.1 and on to 8.0.1.2 . I do hope this will fix a few of the major bugs in the previous version

tell traveler version
SyncServerVersion
- Major Version = 8
- Minor Version = 0
- Revision Level = 1
- Maintenance Level = 2
- Build Level = 200807181242
- Domino Version = Release 8.0.1|February 07, 2008

One thing I have go give kudos for is the stat commands in traveler. It really gives you a very good idea of where things stand on the server. take a look at the example below.

08/18/2008 08:18:04 AM Remote console command issued by Domino Administrator/traveler: tell traveler showstats
There are 9 users known to the system.
33 percent (3) of the users have been offline for more than 24 hours.
66 percent (6) of the users are online or have been within the past 24 hours.
There are 6 mailfiles currently being monitored for these online users.
The current change detection latency of these mailfiles is 0 ms.
There are 10 devices known to the system.
40 percent (4) of the devices have been offline for more than 24 hours.
60 percent (6) of the devices are online or have been within the past 24 hours.
50 percent (5) of the devices are currently connected to the server via TCP.
There have been 649 prime syncs.
The average prime sync took 887 ms.
100 percent (649) of the prime syncs were successful.
The average successful prime sync took 887 ms.
0 percent (0) of the prime syncs failed.
The average failed prime sync took N/A ms.
There are an average of 0.003 prime syncs running at any given time.
There have been 98 device syncs.
The average device sync took 27,419 ms and transferred 5,793 bytes.
93 percent (92) of the device syncs were successful.
The average successful device sync took 8,570 ms.
6 percent (6) of the device syncs failed.
The average failed device sync took 316,431 ms.
5 percent (5) of the device syncs ended in result 408.
The average 408 device sync took 339,558 ms.
1 percent (1) of the device syncs ended in result 409.
The average 409 device sync took 200,798 ms.
There are an average of 0.016 device syncs occurring at any given time.

T-Mobile is to launch the first phone based on Google's Android design on Sept 17, 2008 in hopes that the new device will compete with Apple's iPhone, Wired magazine reported on Friday. The smartphone will be manufactured by Taiwan-based High Tech Computer, and will have a large touch screen that slides out to reveal a five-row QWERTY keyboard. The device, which will be called the G1, will sell for $150 to T-Mobile customers in the first week of launch before it is offered to other customers at a higher price. Google developed the Android design to help it expand its successful advertising business into the increasingly lucrative mobile market. It released the parameters to an alliance of mobile phone carriers, developers and manufacturers earlier in the year. Deutsche Telecom's T-Mobile announced in February that it would introduce Android-based phones in the fourth quarter of 2008.

I just found another new OS for the 8320 and this is available for Blackberries of the 8100 (Pearl) , 8300 (Curve) and the 8800(whatever it was called) series.

I do find it to be a quite a bit faster than the previous releases, (good job RIM).

But my old grievance still remains, that being the instability of the UMA . Now this could also be due to my router so I am not yet totally prepared to blame rim on it , but I do notice its a lot more unstable if you use the bluetooth . Now that part I guess RIM's going to work on.

Now for my UMA problem I have decided to get the latest router from Linksys (Read my my-next-router-it-has-qos-for-uma here)

Now thats not going to work with me.

So I have decided to buy the new linksys WRT610N router.

The features in short are

Internet-sharing Router and 4-port Gigabit Switch, with a built-in, dual-band, speed and range enhanced Wireless Access Point

Two simultaneous, separate, radio bands double your available bandwidth

Wireless-N technology uses multiple radios per band to create robust signals for maximum range and speed, with reduced dead spots

Connect a hard drive or flash-based USB storage device to allow access to your music, video, or data files from within your network, or through the Internet

Advanced wireless security and SPI firewall for protection from Internet attacks

The other main reason is is allows me to do QOS for UMA devices. Now that I like especially for all the testing I do with the blackberries.

Missing single sign-on in Lotus Notes client- Solution

I got asked an interesting question.

" we installed the lotus notes client and forgot to select the Single sign on option. Is there a way to add just that or do we have to re-install the entire lotus notes client?"

Well here you go

To install the single client logon feature silently on existing Notes deployed workstations, use the ADD the feature when calling the MSI, for example:

msiexec /i "\\path\to\installfiles\Lotus Notes 8.0.msi" ADDLOCAL=ClientSingleLogon /qb+

and use:

/qn for a completely silent install (no user intervention) WITHOUT progress bar, or

/qb for a silent install (no user intervention) WITH progress bar.

You can add a "+" switch, to see a dialog that states the installation is complete (for example: /qn+ , /qb+ ). this is a nice option to add so the user visually knows when the install is done.

Optionally, you can also hide the cancel button so your users cannot opt to cancel out of the install. just add a " ! " to the arguments ..
example: /qb!+

This is a really small install and only takes a few seconds to execute.

After sucessfull installation, the single client login service has to be started at the workstation. Then, logout and re-authenticate.

I have already been warned that the voice calls seem to be dropping even on Edge off late on the t-mobile network .
Blackberry Bold on AT&T

At last RIM has woken up to the good ol' saying "keep up or get left out eating the dust". They have announced a phone that is truely gonna give the iPhone a run for its money and based on the specs (read my previous post 3G-Blackberry-and-iPhone-comparison) it might even beat the iPhone on its own turf. The fun part being they have infact taken the race down to the line , releasing on the Blackberry Bold 4 days apart from the iPhone 2.0, and just like the iPhone exclusively on AT&T..

After going through the specifications in detail (read my previous post 3G-Blackberry-and-iPhone-comparison) and doing a comparison, I would feel the Bold would win hands down. But there are a few factors to consider here.

1. A lot of the corporates use a BES so there for the Bold is going to be a natural winner by force rather than choice
2. If you want push mail to the iPhone you need to subscribe to MobileMe package which has a startup fee of US$99.00 for a single user with 5gb online storage and a family pack for US$149.00 with 40gb online storage. (am yet to find how much the annual renewal would be!)
3. So far there has been no official announcement either from IBM or Microsoft about iPhone support either for Exchange or Domino where as the Blackberry is well known to work with both.

As I come across more I will blog later.
